Meet Police Chief Misty Keller
Chief Misty Keller made history as the first female Chief of Police for the Blackfeet law enforcement. Throughout her entire career, she has worked diligently to attain her current position, reflecting her dedication and passion for her role. The momentous occasion of her induction was celebrated with enthusiasm by the Blackfeet Tribal Council, marking a significant point in history for the tribe. Blackfeet Tribal Chairman Iiff "Scott" Kipp, Sr. expressed high hopes for the future under Keller's leadership, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding the community-law enforcement connection. Chief Keller's primary objective is to mend the relationship between law enforcement and the community, working towards earning their trust back and ensuring it remains intact.
A moment of personal pride, Keller's father, Mark Keller, pinned her new badge onto her uniform during her swearing-in ceremony. In acknowledgment of her groundbreaking position, James McNeely performed a naming ceremony, bestowing upon her the Blackfeet name “First Woman.” Her dedication to service is part of a family legacy, as her great-aunt, Winnie Salois, was the first Chief Game Warden for the Blackfeet Tribe during the late 70s and early 80s.
In her role as Chief of Police, Keller has already shown leadership by honoring law enforcement personnel for their lifesaving efforts, underlining her commitment to recognizing and upholding exemplary service within the department. As she steps into her role, Chief Keller remains optimistic and passionate about making a positive difference in her community.
